NELP Standards 1-3
In the beginning of the year, I was selected to be a model teacher of sixth grade. I had no idea how challenging, exciting, and powerful this role would be. This role aligns with NELP Standard 1-mission, vision, and improvement. In this role I develop my leadership skills of growing my team and leading by example each day. My mentor and I have meets bi-weekly and she probes me with questions that will sharpen my skills as a leader.

One of my responsibilities as a model teacher is to have weekly PLC meetings with the sixth-grade team. This task aligns with NELP Standard 2-ethics and professional norms. During these meetings I outline the norms and go through our agenda with such topics as grading procedures, behavior plans, and data analysis. In some of our meetings school leadership may attend to explain new procedures and see how things are progressing with the team.

One of the various leadership opportunities I have is the task of being afterschool tutoring coordinator for grades 6-8. The role is aligned with NELP Standard 3-equity, inclusiveness, and cultural responsiveness. As after-school coordinator I ensure that teachers have the appropriate materials they need to service scholars and progress monitor how scholars are moving through the curriculum.
